This giant 27 metre mural was officially launched in November 2009 at Wimborne Minster, Dorset.
The work was commissioned by the town's Chamber of Trade, working in partnership with businesses and the town and district councils. The idea was to cover grey hoardings put up while work goes on to repair buildings in the High Street gutted by fire earlier this year.
Tracy Cooper , Arts Officer for East Dorset District Council and part of the selection panel said, 'The brief was to reflect the vibrancy and up-beat character of the town and to depict its architecture, landscape ans social calendar of events. we had 11 submissions but Terry's design just caught everyone's eye!'
'It will lift the heart and spirit of the town. That's why we have named it 'The Spirit of Wimborne'said Malcolm Angel, chairman of Wimborne Chamber of Trade.
Terry said ' This was a particularly interesting project to be involved with because of its scale and the fact that it needs to have an appeal to all age groups within the community. From my original sketches I have produced the artwork at one-tenth scale using watercolour, inks and acrylics. this gave the finished painting texture and a luminous quality.'
Project co-ordinator Lenschen Laffin said 'So it could be reproduced to the full size and replicate the original, high quality scans were made by us before being sent to print. Each finished board measured 2 metres wide by 1.8 metres high.'
The mural had to be completed and displayed within four weeks of being chosen and will be displayed until June 2010.
